2nd Ballynahinch BB Display 2019
The Annual Display of 2nd Ballynahinch Boys’ Brigade Company was held last Friday evening in Ballynahinch Congregational Church Hall. Church Minister and Chaplain of the Company, Rev Dr George Speers, chaired the evening’s proceedings. Guest of Honour was Mr Alex Speers. All sections put on an excellent display with a variety of sketches, games and drill. Instrumentals were also performed by members of the Junior Section, Matt Courtney and Benjamin McCarten.
The Company bid farewell to Anchor Boy helper Margaret Maxwell after many years of faithful service. Company Captain, Mark Bell, presented Margaret with a gift on behalf of the Company to acknowledge her service and thanked her for the time and support she devoted to the Boys’ Brigade.
Former Company Section boys Alex Burtney, Oliver McKibben and Nathan Cowan were presented with their Queen’s Badge Award after successfully achieving it since last year’s display. Corey Fitzpatrick who also achieved his Queen’s Badge was unable to attend the display. His badge was received by his mother Mrs. Gail Fitzpatrick on his behalf.
This year brought much achievement to our Company in many different areas. Sam Douglas from Anchor Boys won the Down Battalion colouring in competition for the Primary Four three group, as well coming runner up in the Northern Ireland District competition for the same category.
The Anchor Boy Duster Hockey Team won the Down Battalion Duster Hockey Competition. A favourite yet difficult competition and everyone played brilliantly.
The Junior Section football team won the Down Battalion 5 a side football competition for the second year in a row. The team will now represent Down Battalion in the Northern Ireland finals to be played on Saturday 13th April 2019 in Magherafelt.
The Junior Section also came runners up in the Down Battalion Scripture Shield this year. This is an excellent achievement for our company and is our core business in the Boys’ Brigade as we seek to advance Christ’s Kingdom among the boys. Well done Boys.
Finally, congratulations to our Company boys who came 3rd in the Company Section Years 8-10 uni-hoc competition in Kilkeel. All boys played really well.
The boys and officers will now enjoy their summer break before BB recommences again on Monday 9th September 2019 for registration night. All boys aged 4 – 19 are welcome to come along to our BB company next season. Keep viewing our 2nd Ballynahinch Boys’ Brigade Facebook page to keep updated with the latest news from our company.
